  • Buongiorno Gelato!

    Published 20/07/22

Thank you to Renata for organising for a special visit from Mijols Panxhi at Buongiorno to celebrate the wonderful work of the Strathmore School Council for 2021-22. The councillors reflected on the different jobs they had and the impact they made:

    • voting for key events
    • choosing which resources to spend money on
    • choosing which food and drink to have for the Valentine's day party
    • making presents for members of staff to thank them for hard work
    • hosting important visitors like our local MP Munira Wilson.

To celebrate their teamwork, the learners were allowed to choose the ice cream flavour using ALD boards and Mijols even got involved himself and was served a pot of gelato by Haydn.

Buongiorno were very generous and the learners said the ice cream was "delicious", "nice" and "my favourite". The good news is, because they are a local business, families can visit them over the summer at 149 Heath Road UNIT 2, Twickenham, London, TW1 4BH and ask Mijols to show you the Makaton for "good afternoon" that he learnt with us!

We look forward to visiting them soon.

  • July Heatwave 2022

    Published 11/07/22

    Feeling hot, hot, hot!

Strathmore school will be incorporating lots of water play in to our week (please send in spare clothes). With so many of our learners not wanting to wear their shoes, we will support them with lightweight shoes for the playground e.g. crocs and sandals if you send them in.

We can only apply sunscreen sent in from home and with the signed form; please contact your class if you need help with this.

Top tips from the NHS website below to stay cool during this very warm period:

    • look out for those who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated – older people, those with underlying health conditions and those who live alone are particularly at risk
    • stay cool indoors – many of us will need to stay safe at home this summer so know how to keep your home cool
    • close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors
    • if going outdoors, use cool spaces considerately, keep your distance in line with social distancing guidelines
    • follow coronavirus social distancing guidance and wash your hands regularly
    • drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol
    • never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children or animals
    • try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm
    • walk in the shade, apply sunscreen regularly and wear a wide brimmed hat, if you have to go out in the heat
    • avoid exercising in the hottest parts of the day
    • make sure you take water with you, if you are travelling
    • if you are going into open water to cool down, take care and follow local safety advice
    • Remember that while coronavirus restrictions are in place, you will need to follow government guidance to use public spaces safely
