Our Approach:
Inclusive curriculum:
We integrate the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion into our curriculum, ensuring that our educational programs reflect the rich diversity of our community and the world. By incorporating diverse perspectives and inclusive practices, we aim to cultivate a culture of understanding, empathy, and mutual respect among our students.
A teacher describes curriculum planning at Strathmore:
‘Our bespoke curriculum meets the individual needs of the learners. I ensure that planning is personalised to meet the learning needs of each learner, their timetables are individual, so they can access learning, e.g. movement breaks, OT input.’ (Strathmore teachers’ survey, April 2025)
Another teacher talks about the use of resources that reflect different backgrounds (cultural, racial and socioeconomic):
‘…Books that reflect different cultures, celebrating different cultures across the year, doing assemblies with topics that raise awareness, facilitating opportunities out in the community.’ (Strathmore teachers’ survey, April 2025)
At Strathmore, we are committed to creating opportunities for every learner to explore education beyond the classroom and to engage meaningfully with the arts. Our community programme is inclusive, inspiring, and designed to enrich the lives of learners of all ages, racial and social backgrounds. We continue to grow in partnership with families and carers, while championing learner voice at the heart of everything we do.

We actively promote learner voice, with our School Council playing a key role throughout the year across all campuses, making decisions and sharing ideas to help improve our school.
We also encourage learners to express their likes and dislikes and make choices about their preferred leisure activities and trips.

Engagement with Families and Carers
- Ongoing Support: Our parent support workers, Jenny and Al, provide continuous guidance for families and carers, while also promoting inclusive workshops and coffee mornings.
- School Events: We host a variety of events throughout the year that bring families together, including Sports Days, Winter Concert, Winter Market, Summer Concert, Carol Singing, Transition Events, Parent Evenings, Stay and Play sessions, and World Book Day celebrations.
- Community Celebrations: Friends of Strathmore School (FOSS) organises diverse events such as International Evenings, the Ham Fair, and Strathmore’s BBQ, championing and celebrating our vibrant multicultural community.
- Parent Survey: In response to the Parents’ survey (summer 2025) to increase the number of curriculum enrichment activities, we continue to expand the curriculum offer and our School Development Priorities to include more sensory play, music, creative arts, sporting activities, and community-based trips, all linked to pupils’ learning and growing independence. We hosted our first ‘Staycation’ for three older learners in June 2025 and hope to plan more next year. A parents’ working group has shared their vision and ideas with the leadership team about enhancing community engagement and the residential trip offer and working in partnership with the school to support new initiatives. (Parent Survey report, summer 2025)
- Communication: Communication with parents and carers is facilitated during meetings with the use of translators, and school staff ensure that all communications with home are easy to understand and translated to the families where required.
Staff :
- Training: Our continuing professional development (CPD) programme provides comprehensive training to ensure all staff understand and uphold the school’s vision and ethos. Safeguarding is a core element of this training and underpins our equality and behaviour policies. The focus of training in November 2025 was to gather views from staff around fair recruitment and equality training and the ‘social graceesss’ model.

- Recruitment: The school actively encourages fair recruitment and offers employment workshops to support applicants. All recruitment is conducted in accordance with the Auriga Trust policies and safe recruitment guidance.
